Sacramento Drag Merch Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is Sac Drag Merch? Do you Make the Shirts and Merch?

A: No!  We definitely don’t. Think of Sac Drag Merch as the farmer’s market that has all different vendors! The drag performers are the vendors! We don’t make any money off their sales or set pricing--that’s all them!

Q: So how do you guarantee quality?

A: Awkward answer: we can’t!  We can tell you anything made from 1585 Print Co. is going to be awesome. We aren’t affiliated with 1585 other than we ourselves are customers. They make awesome shirts and we want everyone to know that. Other than that, every drag artist has the right and option to choose who they work with and go through for the production of their merchandise.  If someone goes through Threadless or Teespring, we’re not going to stop them. If anything goes wrong with your order, check with the merch manufacturer first, then maybe let the drag artist know, just so they’re aware of what’s going on.

Q: So if something goes wrong, I should email you, Sac Drag Merch, about it?

A: No! We can’t do anything to help you. Again, we don’t fulfill or even take orders. We’re just a centralized place that makes it easy to find all the drag artists' links and merchandise. This includes returns or missed orders. We hope that doesn’t happen to you but if it does, hopefully, your drag artist of choice has chosen a good company who will back up their products.

Q: So you don’t take orders, guarantee anything, or fulfill orders…why do you exist?

A: Totally just answered that above. We realized how hard it can be for every drag performer to get their merch shop links out there and how much work it can be for customers and fans to search for each artist separately. We said to ourselves while standing in a parking lot at 1:30 am one night “what if there was a better way? What if there was a website that every Sacramento Drag Artist could be on and then anyone could find them and their merch easily?’ Boom. Sac Drag Merch was born (like 2 years later cause building a website takes effort and finding the right person and skills and money and stuff. But boom! Here it is!)

Q: Oh awesome! So can any drag artist join?

A: Yes, all drag is valid, all drag merch is valid.

Q: Sign me up!

A: Slow down, friend. This is a FAQ, we’re not actually here. You’ll want to fill out our submission form, pay the page-construction fee, and then boom! You’ll be here too!

Q: You’re making local drag artists pay to be on the site? Feels gate-keepy, no?

A: Actually, no. Anyone can be on the site. Everyone who wants to should be able to join. Of course, Sac Drag Merch reserves the right to not affiliate with anyone who:

  • Doesn’t have merch

You should have merch to be on Sac Drag Merch. That’s…kind of the point. There will be exclusions to this, but why would you want to be on a merch site without merch? I guess if you want to pay for it to be built, we can talk…

  • Doesn’t want to pay to have their page built.

Yes, you have to pay for your page to be built. A very talented web designer builds and maintains SacramentoDragMerch.com. We adore her. She makes it look good and work good. She also does this for a living, so we have to pay her for her time. $60 isn’t easy all the time for everyone, but it’s well below what a normal site construction fee is, and it’s basically a gig’s worth of money…or a gig plus some tips.  You aren’t doing drag for free, or at least if you have merch you aren’t giving it all away for free. Unless you are, and then you are a benevolent soul. But our designer is a small business-owning Grandmother. So we’re going to support that and get her paid for doing her job.

  • Has a problematic vendor, which ultimately would be harmful to consumers.

Again, we don’t mandate, force or demand who anyone’s shirts come from. We considered that before starting the site, but that didn’t seem fair. But if someone’s shirts come from a vendor that continually fails to meet orders, we can’t in good conscience promote that.

  • Isn’t from Sacramento.

Again, exceptions will be made. But on a case-by-case basis. This is Sac Drag Merch. If you’re from Los Banos, don’t be mad at us, start LosBanosDragMerch.com. Or let’s talk about it, just know Sac Artists are our priority.

  • Isn’t a Drag Artist.

Again, all drag is valid. But not all merch is drag merch. Not all people are Drag Artists. Have we talked about letting some of our talented friends showcase their merch somewhere on a sub-level of Sac Drag Merch.com?  Yes. Totes. But ultimately this is a site for Drag Artists. From Sacramento.

  • Will use the platform to create or further drama.

We don't want no drama.

No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama.

So…yeah…if you’re about that you can start ‘DramaFilledDragMerch.com.’ I know a great web designer!
